Teamwork
After the whole 12 weeks, I can say that teamwork plays an important part in studying university. Since high school, I did not have many chances to study in groups, doing teamwork in RMIT is both challenging and interesting.
Since I am a freshman and there were the online courses last semester, so even though we had the teamwork assignments, it did not work out quite well. In this semester, studying Making Media is a big chance for me to improve my teamwork skills as we have 2 out of 3 assessments to work in groups. Me, along with Steven, Quinn and Bella, formed a team to work together for the podcast and magazine assignments. I was quite nervous and afraid if I can get along with them or not, fortunately, thanks to my teammates, they were very respectful and friendly, they took the initiative to ask me about my ideas and opinions. Day by day, after only 1-2 days working together, I can confidently speak up my mind and state my opinion in our discussion more than the first day we met. And thanks to my team, they are always willing to listen and support me.
Working in team means that we work with people who are different from ourselves, since everyone has a different personality. Therefore, there are a lot of discussions and sentiments from various perspectives. When choosing the topic, we listed three main interesting topics and could not choose one, so we asked for some help from Dr. Justin, he gave us his perspectives for three topics. Eventually, we chose Local Brands since it is closest to us, teenagers.
In both assessments, we faced many challenges. First of all, the podcast, the two hardest things were the script and technical skills. During the recording process, we struggled a bit in speaking English fluently and had to record several times. Bella and Quinn speak English quite well, so they helped me and Steven to fix our parts. Next, the editing process, none of us know how to use Adobe Audition so it took most of our time. Quinn and I were responsible for editing, and Steven was in charge of finding sound effects. Fortunately, we acquired some new knowledge and improved our problem-solving skills. Even though our podcast was not as good as we expected, I have learnt a lot from the course and my teammates.
